Is it true that our past, present and future sins are forgiven?
The above question sounds as though it is a difficult question, but of a truth it is not, provided you are well abreast with what the bible teaches concerning it. The nature of God's forgiveness of our sins is mind boggling and as imperfect beings as we are, we find it hard to accept it. Is it true that our past, present and even future sins are forgiven? The answer to this question is that yes, all our sins are forgiven, past, present and future sins. The day you came to saving faith in Christ, all your sins were forgiven. The perpetual forgiveness of all the sins of our entire lives is a wonderful gift we have received from our Lord and Savior for which we are eternally grateful. It baffles my mind that instead of some of our fellow brethren, to humble themselves and accept the fact that they are forgiven of their past, present and future sins, rather they tend to fight us who are strong proponents of eternal forgiveness. Truth is truth even though you might wrestle against it, but one thing is certain that you cannot prevail against the truth.
Without confession are our sins still not forgiven?
If I do not confess my sins before God as a born again Christian, does that mean God will not forgive me? In this life, we sin and we will continue to sin until we depart from this world. We sin everyday, some we are aware of and others we are unaware, but the good news is that our confession is not the foundation for receiving forgiveness from God. The blood of Christ cleanses us from all manner of sins we have committed, whether we confessed it or not (1 John 1; 7). The death and subsequent resurrection of Jesus Christ secured the remission of all our past, present and future sins. There is no record of sin standing against the person in Christ, for all his sins are forgiven for Jesus sake. David by the Spirit penned down this new testament blessing: As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us (Psalms 103: 12). The removal of our sins is not based on our confession, but on the basis of the pure grace of God. To say without confession of known and unknown sins, our sins still remains, such belief is not in unison with God's love and grace fully revealed in Jesus Christ.
Scriptural Evidences
In the book of Ephesians, it is written: In him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace (Ephesians 1: 7). "Have" in the original Greek is used in the present tense. This means that in Christ we have continual forgiveness, for the sins we commit today and the ones we are yet to commit in the future. John also wrote: I am writing to you, little children, because your sins have been forgiven you for His name's sake (1 John 2; 12). Beloved, "forgiven" in the Greek is used in the perfect tense. This speaks of a definite action that was completed in the past and needs not to be repeated, for it avails in the present and will continue forever. We were forgiven the sins of our entire lives the day we trusted in Christ for salvation. This means that in Christ we are forgiven of our past, present and future sins. Glory to Jesus! In the book of Colossians, the apostle wrote: When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions (Colossians 2: 13). The Greek word for "all" is "Pas" which means all manner, always, complete ". This tells us that in Christ, we are forgiven of all manner of sins, we are always forgiven and our forgiveness is complete. If our forgiveness is complete, then there is no outstanding sin against us. The vicarious sacrifice of Christ is complete, and the forgiveness of our sins is equally complete.
In the book of Hebrews, it is written: For I will be merciful to their iniquities, And I will remember their sins no more" (Hebrews 8: 12). God speaks in the first person saying, I will, I will. The author of Hebrews quoted from the prophet Jeremiah who prophesied that a time is coming that God will establish the New covenant and one of the blessing encapsulated in it is that God will be merciful to our iniquities and remember our sins no more, see (Jeremiah 31: 31-34). God fulfilled the words of his servant after the death and resurrection of Christ. The new covenant has been established and God's promise not to remember our sins anymore stands sure. This speaks of the eternal nature of our forgiveness. God does not remember our past, present and will not remember our future sins, why? Because Jesus Christ has made sufficient payment for all our sins. There is no sin which is too powerful to be forgiven, in Christ we are completely forgiven of our past, present and future sins.
The death of Jesus Christ secured our forgiveness
Beloved in Christ, the truth am communicating to you does not proceed from my own mind, but from a careful examination of the scriptures. When Jesus was crucified on the cross, God laid on him the sins we will ever commit. Jesus bore our sins in his body when he died, and rose on the third day to secure our forgiveness. Jesus Christ has washed away all our sins with his own blood, see (Revelation 1; 5). The potency of the sacrifice of Christ avails not only in the past, but in the present and future as well. Our sins are forgiven and this eternal truth gives me inner peace and joy.
Stand firm in the truth of your forgiveness
Beloved in Christ, I encourage you to stand firm in the truth of the gospel of God's grace. Always stick to what God has spoken to us in his word. At times you might not feel forgiven, but understand that your feelings can easily deceive you. Others who are naïve of the truth will also seek to cause you to doubt the truth you have received, but don't allow them, always stand firm in the truth. Your sins are forgiven, your past, present and future sins are all forgiven, for this shows how much your father loves you. I love this biblical doctrine and we are called by God to be witnesses of this truth. We honor Jesus Christ when we believe and teach that his substitutionary sacrifice purchased the sins of our entire lives, but we dishonor him when we believe and teach otherwise.
A thought to ponder 🤔
